Max Andrews
Lives and works in Barcelona, Spain
Max Andrews did Foundation Studies in Art and Design at Falmouth College of Arts in 1995, before going on to the University of Brighton (BA Critical Fine Art Practice) and the Royal College of Art (MA Curating Contemporary Art).
He was Curatorial Fellow at the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis (2003–04) and Special Projects Curatorial Assistant to Director, Tate Collection, London (2004–05). He is a regular contributor to Frieze and has written for catalogues including Day for Night, Whitney Biennial 2006; Life on Mars, 55th Carnegie International 2008 and Haegue Yang: symmetric inequality, 2009.
He is the co-founder, with Mariana Cánepa Luna, of the Barcelona-based curatorial office Latitudes. Since 2005, Latitudes has collaborated with artists and institutions in the conception, organisation and production of exhibitions, public commissions, conferences, editorial and research initiatives across local, pan-European and international situations. Their most recent project was Portscapes (2009-10), a series of ten public commissions and an exhibition at the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, which was developed with SKOR (Foundation for Art and Public Space) in the context of the expansion of the port of Rotterdam, the largest industrial area in Europe. Portscapes artists included Lara Almarcegui, Bik van der Pol, Jan Dibbets, Ilana Halperin, Jorge Satorre and Hans Schabus.
