Jeremy Millar
Lives and works in Whitstable, Kent
Jeremy Millar has exhibited widely, with recent, current and forthcoming solo exhibitions at the National Maritime Museum, London; Ikon Gallery, Birmingham; HICA, near Inverness; and the Ethnographic Museum, Krakow; and numerous group exhibitions including The Dark Monarch at Tate St Ives.
He is currently working on a commission for the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art and the Ashmolean Museum, both Oxford, in response to John Ruskin’s The Elements of Drawing.
Millar has contributed to numerous international catalogues and artists’ publications, including those on Tacita Dean, Roni Horn and Simon Starling. In 2005 he wrote Place (Thames and Hudson) with Dean, which considered the importance of place within much contemporary art practice. His most recent book is The Way Things Go (Afterall, 2007).
Millar has also curated numerous exhibitions including The Institute of Cultural Anxiety – Works from the Collection, (ICA, London, 1994); Speed (Whitechapel and The Photographers’ Gallery, London, 1998); escape (Media_City Seoul, 2000); Make Life Beautiful! The Dandy in Photography from 1850 to the Present Day (Brighton Museum and Art Gallery, 2003); and Waterlog (Norwich Museum and Art Gallery, 2007). He has also conceived Every Day is a Good Day: The Visual Art of John Cage for Hayward Touring. This is the largest exhibition of Cage’s visual art ever curated and will open at the Baltic, Gateshead in June 2010, before touring the country.
Amongst Others, an exhibition of Millar’s work curated by Lisa Lefeuvre and including two new commissions, opens at Plymouth Arts Centre on 29 May.
